Material needed:
3 – 8 x 11 piece of paper

PURPOSE:
We are going to test the strength of paper, folded in differently shaped columns, by piling books on top. This is very similar to how columns are used to support buildings and other structures.
Directions:
Step 1:
Use regular copy paper, not card stock for this challenge.
Step 2:
Fold each paper into the three shapes (refer to picture BELOW) and secure the entire open edge with tape.
Step 3:
Slowly pile small books on top of each shape and keep track of how many books can pile on top of each.
Step 4:
Try this experiment at least 3 times and record on recording sheet below.
